Ambitious
Caring
Excellence
During the first half term of each new academic year, each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, elects a class member to be their representative on the School Council.
Meetings are usually held every two/three weeks, when fundraising events and any matters that have been raised by pupils are discussed. You will often see brightly coloured posters dotted around the school, for which School Council are responsible! In between these meeting the class representatives ask the children in their class for any ideas they have on these subjects. What can we do to make learning better? What can we do to make playtimes better? What good causes should be help?
As well as raising money for the school, School Council also raises money for charities like Red Nose Day or for other needy causes. In 2015/16 we raised money for a Cumbrian Primary School that was flooded. It meant the children could replace ruined playtime toys and resources.
In the year 2018/19, School Council raised money for Children in Need, Comic Relief and the WWF. They also created a child-friendly anti-bullying leaflet to share with the school.
So far this year, they have hosted a colouring competition for Children in Need and are currently planning a special event to raise money for some playground games. Keep your eyes peeled for more information!
All representatives take their role very seriously and work hard to be the children's voice in the school.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
